As you all probably know, the Karl Lagerfeld's collection for Macy's, one of the most anticipated collaborations of 2011, launched last week. I have to admit that I wasn't very excited when I first saw the lookbook online, but that was kind of expected. My style is more on the bright and playful side (like this and this), and Karl Lagerfeld's designs are always quite the contrary. I also felt that although the collection had some key Karl Lagerfeld elements (sleek silhouettes, a neutral color palette, even tweed!), the designs could have been more innovative.
Nevertheless, I did get a chance to give the collection a second look yesterday, and I realized that while I'm not exactly head over heels, I don't completely hate it either. The clothes are timeless, and the turtleneck/high collars, classic cuts, and modest hemlines look very chic and work-appropriate. Also, it's not every day that you get to own anything remotely related to Karl Lagerfeld for as little as $50 to $170, right?! Here are some of my favorite items from the collection–
In Numerical Order: Long Sleeve Floral Print Blouse, Skinny Faux Leather Zipper Pants, Sleeveless Contrast Collar Textured Dress, Sleeveless Turtleneck Tweed Rhinestone Trim Dress, Short Puff Sleeve Floral Print Dress, Long Sleeve Button Front Ruched Dress
The contrast collar dress (and apparently the collar is detachable so you can wear it as a regular LBD as well) and the tweed dress definitely stand out for me; they would both be super classy pieces to have in your wardrobe. The faux leather pants have also been quite popular among the fashionable bunch and are such a great deal for $99! These three items would probably be the first to fly off the shelves, so if you've got your eyes on them, make sure you get yourself to the nearest Macy's store or order online ASAP! And if you've already done your share of shopping, I'd love to hear what you think of the collection in terms of quality and fit. I’ve been traveling and was thinking about ordering online, so any feedback would be much appreciated.
