Sonam Kapoor in the April 2010 issue of Grazia India

This photo of Sonam has a very celebratory vibe, filled with fun and frolic, which is exactly how I’ve been feeling of late because (drumroll, please!) it’s my blog’s birthday week! Woohooooooooo!! :D I can’t believe it’s been a year since my first blog entry! Sometimes it feels like I’ve been blogging for ages and at other times it feels like I just started yesterday, but if there’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s that blogging has become such an essential part of me that I can’t even imagine my life without it.

Over the course of one year, I’ve often been asked a lot of hows and whys related to my blog and I can’t think of a better time than now to address them, so here we go:

On Why I Started – It wasn’t planned, it just kind of happened! My friends used to send me links to their blogs and I would read them for fun, but it never really occurred to me that I could blog too! When I moved to NY and I didn’t know anyone initially and pretty much had nothing to do all day, my bf suggested that I continue to write and start a blog. It took me a few months to come around it, but I figured that writing on a fun and informal platform about the things I loved and with people who share the same interests and passions as me really couldn’t hurt!

On Coining the Term “Splurgerina“– I am a bit of a perfectionist so it took me two months to think of a name for my blog! But funny story, I came up with it in my sleep! Basically, I was sleeping and thinking of names for my blog in my dream and that’s how I came up with it! Good thing I remember my dreams, eh? :D Btw, does this happen to all of you as well? Because when I tell people that I come up with ideas in my dreams, most people give me their “Are you on crack?” face! Seriously, if I have a super power I need to know! ;)

On The Pros – Way too many to count! It’s kind of like your baby so you end up making a big deal about every smile, giggle, burp, or fart that comes your way. One little praise and you end up gleaming about it the whole day. It just never gets old! Also, you get to know so many new people and learn so many new things through them. When you’re feeling particularly uninspired and are lacking in creativity, inspiration is just another blog away!

…And The Cons – I would have never realized how much work and time goes into blogging had I not been doing it myself! Now I completely understand how people take this up full time. Also, sometimes I feel that blogging is just becoming an extension of Facebook. When it’s your blog, it’s kind of easy to become self-centered and narcissistic. Some of my favorite bloggers are my favorite because even after being so talented and having garnered so much of fan base, it’s inspiring to see how humble they are and how they don’t let their fame get to their heads.

On Pulling The “Mr.India” i.e. the Invisible Act – Many people ask me my name and want to know what I look like, and I find it extremely sweet and flattering that they are actually interested in getting to know the person behind the blog. So, for all of you curious souls, I would like to say that although I don’t plan to be anonymous forever, I really don’t have a date planned. One day (as was the case with this blog) it will just feel right, and there will be no looking back from there.

And that’s the year that was! And, oh, I just realized my blog is an Aquarian! And so is my bf! And I love them both! Lol :D

xoxo,
