Thank you so much for all your lovely comments on yesterday’s post. We are on Part II of “Playing Catch-Up,” an update on what I’ve been doing/thinking about, while on my trip to India. You can catch the first half of this post here, in case you missed it yesterday. So, moving on:
1) I finally watched Aisha!! It was a movie I was really excited about, because it was the first movie my bf and I had planned to watch after two years of LDR (more on that, here) and I really enjoyed it. The clothes were awesome, the songs were awesome, Sonam Kapoor was awesome, Abhay Deol’s dimples were awesome (swoon!) and I was in splits every time Shefali and Saurabh came on; those two were so cute, and I particularly loved the scene where she loses her shoe while crossing the street, and he comes to her rescue, Bollywood style! Super fun. 😛
I also saw We Are Family, which, to be honest, was so boring even Kajol and Kareena couldn’t save it! The only person who came out looking like a star in that one was the youngest kid; whoever she was, she was adorable!! Ditto for Anjaana Anjaani. The only things that caught my attention were Ranbir Kapoor’s hot body (swooning, again!) and Priyanka Chopra’s HUMONGOUS lips. Oh and Ranbir Kapoor dancing to Disco Dancer! 😉
Coming to Dabangg, I have a story for you guys; here’s how it went:
Bf sings ♫Munni Badnaam Hui ♫
Me: Uhhh…since when have you started singing inappropriate, B-Grade songs?
Bf: This isn’t B-Grade. Salman Khan. Malaika Arora. Dabangg. Is any of this ringing a bell?
Me: Errr..not really. Sounds aweful, though!
Bf: (goes on the reliable YouTube) You’ve got to see this song!!
Me: (while watching the video) Why is Salman Khan dancing like he’s constipated? Omg WHY is Malaika Arora rubbing her thighs? Whaaaaaat…If these are the kind of songs they are going to play at my cousin’s wedding, I’m out!!
Couple days later at the wedding, Munni Badnaam plays again, and again, and again.
Me: (Back home after the wedding) hums ♫Shilpa sa figure, Bebo si♫…AGH!!! STUPID SONG..GET..OUT…OF..MY..HEAD!!
2 Days Later at the Reception dinner
Cousin: (grabs my arm) Let’s go dance!!
Me: Oh I can’t. My shoes…My sari…(suddenly, Munni Badnaam starts playing)…Oh SCREW IT…LET’S GOOO!!! Woohoooooo!!
Song gets over. I leave the dance floor and head straight to the food section. Five minutes later, the song plays again. I leave my food, completely forget that I can’t run in my sari and four inch heels, and sprint towards the dance floor, totally at risk of falling flat on my face.
Me: (after making it to the dance floor sings/screams as loud as ever) ♫CIN-E-MA HALL HUI ♫ WOOHOOO!! BESTEST SONG EVERRR :D:D:D
2) Ok, I don’t know if I should laugh at this or be sad, but the Indian media has completely lost sense of what’s newsworthy and what’s not. I seriously felt like I was watching comedy, every time I tuned in. In the middle of all the Commonwealth Games drama with the foot over-bridge collapsing, paan stains in the bathrooms, and snakes being found in athletes’ rooms, some news channel thought it was a good idea to put Rakhi Sawant kiss Salman Khan on Bigg Boss 4 in endless loop, with some silly headline like, “ Rakhi badnaam hui.” Another news channel thought it was appropriate to show an elephant that went crazy in some village in Kerala and “almost” attacked his owner…OMG it’s BREAKING NEWS!!
3) I have come to terms with the fact that for the older generation in India, you can only be two kinds of weight. You are either healthy (or haaalthy, according to some aunties!:P) or you’re weak! So, when I left India, two years ago, I was healthy, and now after losing 20 pounds, I’m “weak!” I was kind of hoping for a “normal” or a “thin” or maybe even a “slimmer than before” but WEAK?!?! On Twitter, this would be tagged under a #FAIL!! :O 😉
So, that’s that. Obviously, a lot more happened, but if I start writing about everything, I could start a mini-blog just on that. India is eventful like that, and I love it!! 🙂
How have the past two months been for you?? Fill me in!!
Lots of Love,
SK
wow cool 🙂
I so wanted to watch a movie with him too but the time he came no good movies in hall 🙁 so we were happy watching wall-e and udaan on our lappy 😛
but munni badnam is addictive ……he makes his versions of it :P……and when my bro who visits from US can be addictive to it neone can 😛
I am glad u enjoyed 🙂
Lol..what’s up with guys and making their own versions of songs??? My guy does it too…makes me crack up every time!! 😛
wow seems like munni badnaam hui still spinning in ur head 🙂 I am surprised how cud u not like the song the very frst time u heard it. I was fond of it since the very frst time. I cant believe u left food for it though.I thought you luv food haha. And didnt i tell u u are like Aisha. she somehow resembles u from wardrobe to beautiful smile 🙂 everything reminded me of u. Hey indian media needs to be updated… thy are still after Rakhi savant while we got many more like Vina malik and shakshi pradhan (Real bitches) on the sets of big boss hahah
I can’t believe I left food either!!! :O:O So, I know who sakshi pradhan is but who the hell is vina malik??
Vina malik is a new Bitch on Top chart buster hahaha.. soon be on top slot.. I am sure she will leave rakhi sawant, sambhawana seth and all othrs behind
hahahahahahahha hilarious post
munni-magic worked on you too! lol i can so picture you running to the floor to dance to munni badnaam. happens! indian weddings are like that, the madness is contagious, all the practiced poses of sophistication and class go out of the window. it’s funny how we dress up our elegant best and dance our jungli best! super fun !
your bf and you should dance to that one together at your wedding. the first dance!!! i can imagine you pulling him on the floor while he quickly opens his youtube to check out salman’s moves ! *i’m in splits*
were you from the girl’s side at the wedding? it gets very sentimental. i remember trying-to-cry at my cousin sister’s wedding. i over-acted, i looked like i met my worst tragedy.. in the photos.
kheheheh…awesome idea!!! and you’re sooo right about the youtube thing cuz he did that with that radha kaise na jale song…i was dying cuz he was copying aamir khan’s expressions and everything!! Super hilarious!!
I was from the guy’s side but I know what you mean!! I once went to this wedding from the guy’s side and almost cried myself, looking at the bride and all her cousins crying..I was trying so hard to hold back tears because you know..crying if you’re from the guy’s side is soo not cool!! LOL
ohh that songs is awesome… u cant stand still when it is being played..i like some B-grade inappropriate lyrics songs also 😛 they are fun dance numbers 😀
and Rakhi !! wot drama !! haha..she makes me laugh..! she is soon gonna host a TV show.. RAKHI KA INSAAF !!! kinda similar to kiran bedi’s (aapki kachhari) but yeah lot more drama..!! cant wait to watch that! ( i know! cheap taste :P!!)
This post is really fun, I read it in one breath :)) Funny comments about the media, hihi. I like your blog, I hope you’re going to take the time to visit mine – I have a feeling you’ll like it :)) Can’t wait to hear from you and of course feel free to follow me anytime (if you like my blog of course :))! <3
LOL @ munni badnam episode..
I so agree with you about the media being totally clueless. When I visit, I dont watch any TV news becoz I get so upset at the stupidity!! and they keep saying the same damn thing again and again..and they ask such dumb questions during interviews and no finesse!! OK, need get of my bitching horse:-)
Munni badnam hui is crass, cheap and all that.but then, what the hell, its bollywood music and its fun. =)
aunties and uncles have loads of opinions to offer on weight.its irritating.
Awesome Post girl! You made me miss home even more … Munni Badnaam episode – HILARIOUS! 🙂 Looks like you had a great time back home! And yes those aunties need to increase their vocab beyond healthy and weak!
Totally fun reading both part I and II of catch up! 🙂 I’m glad you had so much fun. Being a visitor in your own country — nothing like it! I know the feeling!
Oh and I can’t agree more on the Munni Badnaam part. I was disgusted at the lyrics when the song came out but after watching Dabangg, I just love everything about the entire movie, all due to Sallu!
I actually did not like Aisha at all; probably my Sonam Kapoor bias. Not even Abhay could save it for me! Anjaana Anjaani I actually thought better than Aisha, probably just because of the stars and NYC.
Anyhow, it was fun reading these posts! Can’t wait for more! 🙂
Splurgyyy, i missed you like anything.
And well, i enjoyed going through you Indian-tales 😀 Munni badnaaam is surely the HOT-SONG these days, i hated it initially but then i was left with no other option but to listen to it wherever whenever :p
Met bf after two years? Whoa! I think i know how it must have felt. Harmony 🙂
Aww thanks Urooj…I’m happy you didn’t give up blogging 🙂
