Just Like In The Movies…

This poster of I Hate Luv Storys really cracks me up! I love Imran Khan’s “Bollywood Sucks” T-shirt and Sonam Kapoor’s extremely filmi thought bubble. It kind of reminded me of this Facebook community called “Bollywood gave me unrealistic expectations about desi men.” Hilarious stuff! But it’s true though. If you have grown up watching Bollywood movies, it’s your prerogative to be a little filmi. I mean, how can you not dream of a man like Raj in DDLJ, sweeping you off your feet someday? A bad boy tamed in love, who travels all the way to India from London to win the heart of Simran and her family! Can we collectively say, “Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww!”

So why is it that when you talk to any “self-respecting” man about this, he laughs at how ridiculous it all sounds, rolls his eyes and tells you to get a life? You mean to say that guys like that don’t really exist?? I’m SHATTERED! :O But then telling a Bollywood-inflicted woman this is like telling a little girl that Santa Claus doesn’t exist. You know it’s the truth, but still somewhere at the bottom of your heart, there is still that ray of hope that somehow, somewhere you’re proven wrong! 😉

So, yeah I love all that romantic filmi stuff! But there’s a fine line between being all cutesy and romantic, and just plain, gag-refluxing cheesy and I know a lot of men who just can’t seem to differentiate between them. Like getting an occasional bouquet of your favorite flowers is romantic, but what do you girls think of having your entire room, office, or your car filled with a gazillion bouquet of red roses? Going a little overboard, don’t you think? (Yes, I actually know people who do that!) I happen to feel the same way about humongous greeting cards, gigantic teddy bears and the like!

Guys, if you’re reading this, the point is not to go buy everything available at your nearest Archies or Hallmark outlet. Women love out of the box thinking and most importantly they want you to dig deep and tell them how they make you feel and how you feel about them. And while we are on that topic, what’s with some guys having “I love my girlfriend,” messages on Facebook, IM/Google status, or on their T-shirts!?!?! Impersonal, much? Can’t you just tell her that in person? Seriously, unless it’s your engagement/wedding day or your 25th/50th anniversary, it’s best to keep your ostentatious public declaration of love…well, private!

That’s not to say that I find all public display of affection gross; I just like them to be subtle. For example, I love it when guys hold your hand, especially in front of their friends and family. Or when they put their arm around your waist, or play with your hair, or when they give you tiny little pecks or hug you from the back; you get the point right?

Great, now that we’ve got that straightened out, here are two of my favorite romantic movie scenes (English subtitles embedded) that I, Oh, so wish happen to me one day.:P The first one is from Yuva and I would normally put confessing your love to someone from a post/pillar under the cheesy category, but this one is a bit different. He does it because the girl asks him to and getting out of your comfort zone to do something ridiculous for the girl you love is hot stuff!!

This second one is the climax scene from Jaane Tu..Ya Jaane Na. It’s probably because I move to a new country every three years and all my relationships inevitably end up being an LDR, but it’s my biggest fantasy ever to be stopped by my man in some dramatic way at the airport. Yeah, I know, I’m crazy like that! 😉 But I LOVE this scene; it’s so funny with the police thinking Imran’s a terrorist, him hiding in that baggage screening belt and his atrocious singing! And besides, how hot does he look riding that horse? Hubba Hubba Hot!:P

So, now that I have divulged all this embarrassing stuff about myself, it’s your turn. What’s your secret romantic movie fantasy? All movies included, Bollywood, Hollywood, whatever! I’ll be waiting, so give me some juicy ones!

Until next time, then, keep the fantasies alive!:)

Love,

SK

I find your obsession of bollywood movies very cute. Hey, I want to do filmi kind of stuff; BUT, as you know, I am a very shy individual. Hey, does doing filmi stuff for girlfriends in private count? 🙂 Any tips? 😉

omg ditto to your post! men need to understand that gone are the days when all they had to do was buy a gigantic cards and red roses to impress a girl!

but to be honest, i hate luv stories seems like it will be a fairly predictable film. hope I am proved wrong. I hope its better than mohabbatein at least. man that was ridiculous! i couldn’t understand why any of the guys were in love with those girls! but jaane tu and yuva were great. thanks for posting! guys, if you’re reading, take note…

Well Pepper and other people reading this post; here’s a challenge: What kind of filmi stuff (not mentioned here and is practically possible) would sweep girlfriends off their feet? 😉

@BK: Why private?? You should definitely go get her name tattooed across your arm…just GO FOR IT!!;)Btw if you want to be filmi there’s no room for practicality:)

@Pepperspray: I know right?!?! Some guys really need to go get a clue;) Oh Mohabbatein was PATHETIC..but I really hope I Hate Luv Storys is good..the promo is cute and I heart Sonam Kapoor!! But you never know..the promos are really deceptive these days..like that Kismat Konnection one…that should be nominated for the most torturous movie of the decade!

THE GIRL / BOY SHOULD BE DESERVING one, right.!! Boss, you, me n all know, nowadays, there are hardly a few lovers for whom one can go the extent to prove the platonic Love. LDR has changed the meaning of everything, not only LDR, there are much more dimensions as well..

The weekly, monthly hook ups n break ups, ONS, r so exponential that one , infact I, get to think many times before going THE RAJ or THE MARD way. “why to waste ur so precious emotions for such a fragile relationship which is no more than infatuation”, my asked me one day..!! No answer obviously. Of course situation is not that pessimistic. But yes animal love is on the rise as we see.

But I would certainly like go out of the box for the right girl.

Certainly films are rarely different from real life, at least they show what we think. N of course going Viveks’ yuva way or Jane tu .. or Kartiks’ coffee scene wala way would be the Fab. No show offs, only the Love.

You have written all the true feelings of a real lover girl who always dreams for her RAJ n all. very good written and seriously “iss MARD mein bhi Dard paida ho gaya ;)” now I’ll stop else Swati will say “arey iss Shantanu ko koi chup karao 😉 ”

    Luck. Shan 🙂

As i hv grown up watching Bollywood movies and Hollywood movies so my fantasies are a mix of both. I am a day dreamer.. i jus love romantic movies. i saw Kuch kuch hota hain.. i alomst turned into rahul n was looking for short haired bubbly beauty : ).bt after watching dil to pagal hain my idea of romance changed again… then i started thinking dat some one some where is made for me bt nothing happnd for d nxt two years lols… Titanic gave new wings to my fantasy bt unfortunately delhi has no sea……By the time Mahobattein released i was already in college n lots of beautiful girls were arnd me as u knw north campus is full of them. Then i wanted some beautiful girl lik ash with nice figur n magnetic charm… jiska haath pakad ke Ramjas ke gound ke chakkar lagau or lovers point mai baith kar chup chup ke romance..hehehe…bt now i got a new fantasy… I wana take my girl on a drive from auckland to wellington and then tie her with me in a single rope and jump from the Barbour bridge rite inthe middle of the sea and click photos of changing emotions, crying, screeming and grabbing me with fear hehehehe

Yeah..I think we girls expect that ‘filmy romantic cute hero’ stuff from our men..once in a while.

Have you seen Along came Polly? Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller. Jen dances..she loves dancing..Stiller is a non dancer..he learns salsa from Jen’s gay dance partner secretly and does a very cute dance routine for her at the club in front of everyone…looks ridiculously funny but ends up bringing the biggest smile on her face…. that’s what I secretly want! 🙂 That effort, you know.. the craziness.

@Shantanu: Of course the whole point is to do it for that one girl who’s different! Otherwise there’s no point. Remember in Yuva, Vivek also only did it for Kareena and not that silly girl he was making out with on the train. 😛 And yeah that Kartik calling Kartik scene was really cute too:)

@Neetu: OMG you are soooooo filmi:P I like, i like!!:P And love the last part..jumping from the bridge…would make for some funky photos..you should definitely do that!

@Dip: Yeah definitely once in a while..all the time would become cheesy too.. I love that scene from Along Came Polly! soo cute..and i love that part before that where he tells that dancer
guy “you come in with your mambo moves and erik estrada looks”…hilarious!! I’m sure you dance just has hot as Jennifer Aniston did in that movie, so yeah you should definitely settle for nothing less than that:P

Been here first time and really liked your stuff. You know I too am a bureaubrat (somewhat different from diplobrat) and I can a bit understand of your upbringing about assimiliating different cultures, though my stories are limited to domestic ones only. But I recently moved to a different country and am relishing it now

And btw I would love to see NYC someday
