15 Spring 2016 Couture Looks We Can’t Wait To See On The Red Carpet

February 17, 2016

Giambattista Valli spring couture 20161. Giambattista Valli
on Sonam Kapoor, Rachel McAdams

First things first: We love how beautifully this frothy pink Giambattista Valli gown blends into the theme of this blog! If we had to pick a look to represent all things Splurgerina this would have to be it—it just fits perfectly, doesn’t it? Great! Now that that’s been said, let’s talk awards season. In case you couldn’t tell already, we are obsessed with red carpet fashion around here (follow us on Instagram to check out some of our favorite award season looks so far), and this year’s spring couture collections boast of [Read more…]

Best of Fall 2012 Haute Couture

July 23, 2012

A few of my picks from the Haute Couture Fall 2012 runway that I hope to see on the red carpet.

Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture

1 & 2: These dresses are undoubtedly my favorite from all the shows. And of course they had to be from Elie Saab! If the fashion Gods (yes, they read my blog!) are to grant me one wish from this list, I hope they pick between these two. The lace with the sequins and beading is absolutely breathtaking!

Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture & Christian Dior Fall 2012 Couture

3: The peachy color of this dress is so refreshing, and the gold work ensures that the gown won’t look dull on the red carpet. I think someone like Mila Kunis, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, or the Duchess of Cambridge would look lovely in this.

4: I like how the front of this dress is grey and the back is red. It’s fun!

Christian Dior Fall 2012 Couture

5: This fuchsia dress would be such a pretty shade on Natalie Portman, and the style is so her as well!

6: I would like to see this mid-length dress on someone tall like Katie Holmes or someone with short hair like Anne Hathaway, or Michelle Williams. Rachel Bilson and Rachel McAdams would look ultra chic in it too.

Giambattista Valli Fall 2012 Couture

7: Very Emma Stone, no?

8: I love the subtle purple accents against the green on this dress, but the print could look a little overwhelming. I hope to see this at least in an editorial, if not on the red carpet.

Zuhair Murad Fall 2012 Couture

9 & 10: These would look really pretty on Olivia Palermo, Freida Pinto, Zoe Saldana, or Zooey Deschanel. Also, I would like to see Keira Knightley attempt this style again; her shoes were a little bit of a letdown the last time around.

11: Can you think of celebs who can pull this off with class? Diane Kruger, Beyonce, and Rihanna come to mind!

12: I want to see this on Aishwarya Rai. The color and silhouette would look great on her, although I’m not sure that she would go for such a low neckline. Eva Longoria would look nice in it too.

So that’s about it! I noticed that I’ve finally warmed up to long sleeves, because I usually tilt towards sleeveless or strapless when it comes to dresses.

Anyway, which one of these do you think is most likely to be worn on the red carpet? Write back with thoughts!

SK

Mario Badescu: A Great Skin Care Discovery!

May 1, 2010

Okay this might sound like one of those ads from Proactiv but here it comes — I have the most annoying skin in the world; it is acne prone, it’s somewhat dry on the cheeks, but I have an oily t-zone, I suffer from whiteheads and I have rosacea/reactive redness. It has  a  lot do with my genes. My dad is red all the time and my mom suffered from acne all the way until her late 30s. It used to be very amusing to watch her use topical acne creams, like a teenager, at that age. On second thought, it won’t be so amusing if I end up in the same boat as her! :S

Although my doctor has helped me break the acne cycle by prescribing me Spironolactone, I have to be very careful with the products I use or my skin breaks out again. About a month ago, I was looking for a light-weight, non-oily moisturizer with SPF and that’s when I came across the Mario Badescu line of skin care products. I spent a good couple of hours on their website narrowing in on the right moisturizer and finally settled for the Mario Badescu Suncare (SPF-30). When I first received the bottle, I have to admit, I was my suspicious self. The consistency of the moisturizer seemed thick and I just assumed it was going to make my face feel greasy. But this moisturizer is deceptive like that. The thickness actually makes it easier to apply and once it’s on your face, it disappears. I use it once a day and my face feels moisturized all day long without a trace of shine on it. This moisturizer is for people with combination/sensitive skin and I feel that it really works. It controls the oil on my t-zone, without drying out my cheeks.

This light-weight formula contains Aloe vera gel and Eucalyptus oil and after using this product for about a month now, my rosacea has considerably decreased! And (this is the best part) it doesn’t even smell bad, like most products made for sensitive/acne prone skin do! It’s no surprise then that Mario Badescu has a huge celebrity following, from Oprah and Eva Longoria to Jennifer Aniston and Rachel Bilson. Check their hall of fame out!

Now that I can trust Mario Badescu products, I just filled out the skincare consulting questionnaire on their website, to get a skin care regimen that’s exclusively made for me! They mail you free samples that are especially made for your skin type and you can try them out before picking the ones you want to buy. I’m so excited to hear back from them!

Psst! Apart from their huge line of products, their facials are also getting a lot of positive reviews. Watch this space for a review on it later. And if you end up getting one before me, I would love to get some feedback.

Until next time, then, keep smiling! 🙂

Love,

SK
