Initially, I wrote off sheer as a trend that I definitely wouldn’t be trying, and honestly, isn’t it very easy to think so? After all, clothes that show off your lingerie and leave very little to the imagination can hardly be considered classy, right? What I clearly didn’t realize was just how feminine and sensuous sheer clothes can look if you just know the tricks to wearing them in real life (as opposed to the runway). Wearing a dress with a sheer overlay (see Sonam Kapoor above), a sheer bottom (see the Chiffon Mullet Dress by Rare below) or with peek-a-boo panels are all great ways to implement sheer in a subtle way. Prints work well too since they distract from the sheerness while certain colors/fabrics (like the American Apparel chiffon full length skirt below) just cast a shadow of your body rather than being completely transparent.
I like to pair sheer tops and blouses with jeans to instantly dress them up and also love wearing sheer maxi skirts and maxi dresses. Sheer fabrics make maxis look all the more airy and light, giving them so much more movement! Plus, it’s a great way to show some skin and make them more appealing to men, who apparently hate the maxi trend! And while it’s been long established that women don’t really dress for men, it’s kind of nice to please them every once in a while too, no?! 😉
