I haven’t been keeping well. Sore throat, body ache and sunken eyes. I almost look like a zombie. Not cute! But you know what I like to do when I’m tired of lying in bed all day, waiting to recover? I raid my closet and play dress-up. I experiment with different looks and try to find new ways to mix and match my clothes. Yes, I am aware of the ridiculousness of it all, but it really does make me feel better and I get oh so excited thinking about when I’ll get to show it off. Plus, the amount of cool stuff you’ll find that you don’t even remember you owned, buried deep inside there somewhere!
Which got me thinking, you know those days when you just feel more confident than usual, with the way you look? What do you do differently that leaves you feeling this way? I just love how with girls little things can make a huge difference. Mani-pedis, a day at the spa or even just wearing a new outfit makes us feel beautiful. That easy, and yet guys think we’re hard to please!
Oh well! Dissecting the male psyche is hard stuff, but feeling spectacular? Not so much! 😉 So here, in no particular order, are 6 things that do the trick and leave me feeling gorgeous all day long:
High Heels
Back in high school, I used to wear heels every day. But now, being a journalist, I’m constantly on the move, and I find myself mostly reaching out for ballet flats or flat boots – for the comfort factor. So, on those special days when I don’t have to walk much and can wear heels, I just get beyond obsessed and keep staring at them all day. Seriously, a good pair of heels can turn around the dullest of outfits. Not to mention, how great your legs and overall posture can look in them. I just feel so much more confident when I’m wearing them. Besides, I’m only 5’2. Can totally use the extra inches!
Long Luscious Lashes
Normally, I just wear my Lakme Kajal and leave it at that, but I just love how my eyes pop whenever I wear mascara. I’ve been using the Lancome Definicils High Definition Mascara and I love the way it separates each lash and makes it look so much thicker and longer. Very pretty.
And while we are on the subject of lashes, would you girls ever try Latisse? I read in the March issue of Glamour that it is perfectly safe and that the problems only occur if you misuse it. I’m still a bit doubtful though. I mean, after all they’re my eyes!! :S
Indian Clothes
I don’t know why many people think wearing traditional Indian clothes, especially salwar kameez or churidars, is for fashion simpletons, because I can’t disagree more. A salwar kameez can look chic. Like any other piece of clothing, it just really depends on the design, the cut, the way it fits, and of course the way you carry it off. I used to wear them every now and then, when I was living in India, and I used to get a ton of compliments, especially from men.
And I have yet to see a sexier way to drape a 5 meter fabric (or longer!) around your body, than a sari!
Showing Some Leg
I live in New York City, where I have to hide my legs under jeans, tights or leggings, 9 out of 12 months. Enough said!
Fancy Schmancy Lingerie
Isn’t wearing nice lingerie the best way to pamper your body and feel sensual? Even if you think from a guy’s perspective, nice lingerie can always redeem a boring outfit, but no amount of designer clothes will make up for cheap, old and tattered ones. So ladies, don’t be stingy and get your basics right! The best part about buying lingerie is that you can spend as much as you want, without your significant other ever complaining about it. So, splurge away!:P
Changing Hair-Dos
Changing hair-dos is like getting a mini makeover and this is something I need to do more often. I usually just leave my hair down or tie it up in a ponytail and save the experimenting for special occasions. But whenever I do change things up, I like what I see and feel fabulous! I love what Olivia Palermo does with her hair. Must try some of these styles.
Well that’s about it. Do write back with your “How to feel gorgeous” list. I better go back to bed now. No amounts of shoes or makeup will help, if I don’t get that beauty rest!
Lots of love,
SK

Ah! yeah so true, playing ‘dress-up’ is so fun, always works as a stress-buster for me. I just play nice loud music and spend a nice long me-time with my clothes, accessories, mirror and my cam – OF COURSE 😉
“Only boring people have the same hairstyle in every picture” . True na? Guess who said that. Paris Hilton

I feel that only a saari gives a woman’s curves the right and perfect look! And there are sooo many styles you can drape one. Its beautiful.. so feminine.
Another thing that makes me feel gorgeous is the way I smell.. yeah, good smells are so important to me..
Hmm, will try lancome’s mascara sometime soon!
nice post, thank you 😀
@Dipti: I knew I was forgetting something…a great scent…it definitely feels like something is missing, if I don’t wear perfume. Thank you and have fun lingerie shopping!! 🙂
