Some trends I love in a jiffy, but then there are others which can take me seasons to warm up to. Oxfords/brogues for women is one such trend. In case you haven’t noticed yet, I have an extremely girly taste and my closet is filled with pastels (especially pink!) and other girly elements like florals, ruffles, bows and lace. So, obviously when I first saw oxfords, I was like “No thank you, I’ll stick to my pretty ballet flats!” I sure have come a long way from there! I think I might be growing up because I’m finally getting ready to put some of my girliness aside and try the whole androgynous dressing deal. And what better way to get started than with your footwear, a la brogues?!?! Taking small baby steps is wise when you’re trying a new look.

Alright, first things first, I just love how versatile these shoes are. You can wear them with cropped skinnies or boyfriend jeans, with dresses and skirts or with tailored shorts and pants. You can pair them with tights or knee-high socks for a school girl look or you can wear them as it is and show off your ankles. You can also easily wear these shoes from AM to PM: from a formal work look to casual day dressing, or even an evening out with friends! Not to mention that being flats, they are super-duper comfortable! With so much flexibility on how to wear these shoes, how can you not love them?!?!
For the girly-girls like me who are wary of the masculinity of this particular shoe style, there are so many different styles to choose from that aren’t as manly. Check these out, and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Clockwise: Boutique 9 Ronnie oxfords, Candela mesh lace oxfords, Sam Edelman Cory flat oxfords, Forever 21 Jal-Jacko glittered oxfords, Aldo LAHAIE
I’m just in love with the pink and black ones from Aldo. And the Candela laced oxfords are just so gorgeous! I just can’t wait for it to be summer so I can wear these shoes with some of my really girly skirts and dresses. The counterbalancing makes them that much more wearable! Besides, I’m just so bored of wearing my ballet flats all the time.
What about you? Do you love ‘em, hate ‘em or just aren’t ready for ‘em? Write back with your take.
Until then, keep it real!

Interesting..didn’t know it was a trend.
well I’m mostly a “converse” girl lol. Stilletoes or cute girly flip flops when I’m feeling ~girly~. These are new.. I like the last one, very MJ. Might wear them..out of all the others!
lol @ very MJ…good observation!! i never thought of them like that!!
I tell you what they have really grown on me too. I just bought some from Kumfs (honestly the best brand of shoes on the planet cause they are actually comfy and good for you feet without looking ‘special’) and they are black and cream brogues called ‘Bromley’. If you have facebook check out this link to see them facebook.com/photo.php?pid=5312897&id=188752765328
They are awesome and im just experimenting with styles to mix and match with them. LOVE them with the black satin ribbon laces because it adds a touch of femininity. Soooo gonna have fun with my ‘mafia’ shoes! Give them a try… i surprised myself, so might you???
