So, I wanted to do this post as soon as I saw this outfit on Miranda Kerr last year, but then it slipped my mind, and it only occurred to me now when I saw this photo resurface on my Pinterest. But evidently, good things do happen to people who wait (or slack :S) because now I have actually found dresses that are a very close match to the one Miranda is wearing.
According to outfitidentifier.com, her mint maxi dress is from Balenciaga (and it’s vintage apparently), and I absolutely love her for styling it so casually. With its plunging neckline and high slit, it’s hard not to see this maxi in more dressed-up look, but kudos to Miranda for styling it in such an effortless way and making it look appropriate for even a regular day out in New York City. Orlando Bloom was spot on when he said that “she makes being beautiful look easy.”
Here’s how you can get a similar look on a budget–
1) Forever 21 Semi-Sheer Maxi Tube Dress
2) Lucky Brand Straw Envelope Clutch
3) Forever 21 F0345 D-Frame Sunglasses
4) Dolce Vita Banks Suede Snake-Charm Flat Sandal
5) GUESS by Marciano Jeanett Maxi Dress
I have two dress options here because even though the Forever 21 is a lot cheaper, the Guess by Marciano dress is much more similar to the one Miranda is wearing. This one just has a halter neck instead of sleeves and has a sequin mini lining, which is important because I doubt if any of us can rock a wardrobe malfunction like Miranda does. 😉 I also had a hard time finding a bag that was similar to the Hermès Tigre Royal that Miranda is carrying, but I love how the colors on that bag uplift the outfit, so I picked a clutch that has similar colors. I still prefer the look with a hobo or a crossbody bag for a more laid-back vibe though.
What I love about this outfit is that we all have flat sandals, cat eye sunglasses, and a bright clutch just sitting in our closet, so we essentially just have to buy the maxi dress. And with a few simple tweaks, the dress can also be worn to several different occasions. Just wear the dress with wedges or espadrilles, a daytime clutch, beachy waves, and natural makeup for brunch and switch to sleek hair/ updo, stiletto sandals, a minaudière, and some red lipstick for a night out. At least 3 different looks from one dress? Now that’s money well spent!
