This poster of I Hate Luv Storys really cracks me up! I love Imran Khan’s “Bollywood Sucks” T-shirt and Sonam Kapoor’s extremely filmi thought bubble. It kind of reminded me of this Facebook community called “Bollywood gave me unrealistic expectations about desi men.” Hilarious stuff! But it’s true though. If you have grown up watching Bollywood movies, it’s your prerogative to be a little filmi. I mean, how can you not dream of a man like Raj in DDLJ, sweeping you off your feet someday? A bad boy tamed in love, who travels all the way to India from London to win the heart of Simran and her family! Can we collectively say, “Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww!”

So why is it that when you talk to any “self-respecting” man about this, he laughs at how ridiculous it all sounds, rolls his eyes and tells you to get a life? You mean to say that guys like that don’t really exist?? I’m SHATTERED! :O But then telling a Bollywood-inflicted woman this is like telling a little girl that Santa Claus doesn’t exist. You know it’s the truth, but still somewhere at the bottom of your heart, there is still that ray of hope that somehow, somewhere you’re proven wrong! ;)

So, yeah I love all that romantic filmi stuff! But there’s a fine line between being all cutesy and romantic, and just plain, gag-refluxing cheesy and I know a lot of men who just can’t seem to differentiate between them. Like getting an occasional bouquet of your favorite flowers is romantic, but what do you girls think of having your entire room, office, or your car filled with a gazillion bouquet of red roses? Going a little overboard, don’t you think? (Yes, I actually know people who do that!) I happen to feel the same way about humongous greeting cards, gigantic teddy bears and the like!

Guys, if you’re reading this, the point is not to go buy everything available at your nearest Archies or Hallmark outlet. Women love out of the box thinking and most importantly they want you to dig deep and tell them how they make you feel and how you feel about them. And while we are on that topic, what’s with some guys having “I love my girlfriend,” messages on Facebook, IM/Google status, or on their T-shirts!?!?! Impersonal, much? Can’t you just tell her that in person? Seriously, unless it’s your engagement/wedding day or your 25th/50th anniversary, it’s best to keep your ostentatious public declaration of love…well, private!

That’s not to say that I find all public display of affection gross; I just like them to be subtle. For example, I love it when guys hold your hand, especially in front of their friends and family. Or when they put their arm around your waist, or play with your hair, or when they give you tiny little pecks or hug you from the back; you get the point right?

Great, now that we’ve got that straightened out, here are two of my favorite romantic movie scenes (English subtitles embedded) that I, Oh, so wish happen to me one day.:P The first one is from Yuva and I would normally put confessing your love to someone from a post/pillar under the cheesy category, but this one is a bit different. He does it because the girl asks him to and getting out of your comfort zone to do something ridiculous for the girl you love is hot stuff!!

This second one is the climax scene from Jaane Tu..Ya Jaane Na. It’s probably because I move to a new country every three years and all my relationships inevitably end up being an LDR, but it’s my biggest fantasy ever to be stopped by my man in some dramatic way at the airport. Yeah, I know, I’m crazy like that! ;) But I LOVE this scene; it’s so funny with the police thinking Imran’s a terrorist, him hiding in that baggage screening belt and his atrocious singing! And besides, how hot does he look riding that horse? Hubba Hubba Hot!:P

So, now that I have divulged all this embarrassing stuff about myself, it’s your turn. What’s your secret romantic movie fantasy? All movies included, Bollywood, Hollywood, whatever! I’ll be waiting, so give me some juicy ones!

Until next time, then, keep the fantasies alive!:)

Love,

SK
