I was introduced to the Matrix Biolage hair serum a few years ago by a hairdresser. I was using Livon at the time and was fairly new to the world of hair serums. I thought they were sheer genius, like magic in a bottle, getting rid of tangles and making hair look smoother and shinier in a matter of seconds. As is the case with every new product, I experimented with several brands, but I kept coming back to Matrix because their serum wasn’t sticky and felt the most lightweight.
I stopped using hair serum when I moved to the States in 2008; my hair generally behaved well over there and I wanted to use less chemicals, so I did away with it. But now that I am back in India, I was thinking about bringing it back into my beauty regime. Matrix India got in touch with me to review their newly relaunched deep smoothing 6 in 1 serum at the most appropriate time ever; the winter weather combined with a disastrous haircut had caused my hair to become extremely dry and unmanageable, and I was in need of some serious damage control. I have been using it for about a month now, and it’s done an incredible job of coming to my rescue.
You can use this serum on both damp and dry hair, but because my hair tends to tangle easily, I like to use it right after I’ve washed it. You can also apply it before using a blow dryer or a straightener to control frizz and protect your hair from heat. I have been spending a lot of time out in the sun lately, and this serum has saved my hair from any considerable damage. It contains avocado and grape-seed oils that immediately make the hair shiny and sleek upon application. I’m not a fan of unscented products, so I like how this serum has a sweet, botanical fragrance that is mild enough to not overpower the smell of your shampoo/conditioner.
What I love most about this serum is how easily it gets absorbed into the hair; it literally feels like you have no product on! You do have to be careful about the amount that you use, however, or your hair can get greasy. I only use about 2-3 drops for my medium-long length hair, working my way up and avoiding the roots, and it spreads effortlessly without leaving any traces of oil. My hair hasn’t been this silky and glossy in a while.
If you’re looking for a hair serum and haven’t tried Matrix yet, give it a shot. There’s going to be no looking back, I promise!
