Low Buns & Knots

February 3, 2011

I experiment with hairstyles a lot less than I care to admit; most of the time it’s either all down, or in a ponytail, or in one of those half updos. Last summer, I started changing it up thanks to super cute and easy to do hairstyles like this and this and realized that it was about time that I break out of my hair rut!  Since I’ve been spending a lot of my time at home these days, courtesy the Antarctica-like winters we are having, I thought this would be a good time to find some inspiration from the SS 2011 runways and try some new dos. Any kind of braided hairstyle continues to be an instant hit in my books (how cute are these?!), but I’ve been gravitating towards low buns and knots as well. Whether neatly done or messy, low buns look extremely relaxed and feminine, and for all of you who were wary of the high bun, this is definitely a more flattering style!

Clockwise: Gucci Spring 2011, Nina Ricci Spring 2011, A Fashionising.com how to inspired by Michael Kors Spring 2011, Diane Von Frustenberg Spring 2011

The buns at DVF and Nina Ricci are super easy to do. For DVF, keep the natural texture of your hair and tie your hair back in a low ponytail. I would suggest using your fingers instead of a comb to keep that effortless vibe. Once tied, twist your ponytail and wrap it into a loose bun at the nape of your neck. Secure with bobby pins and leave the few strands of hair that fall out for a natural, wispy feel. And if you hate bobby pins as much as I do, have you seen this magical piece of equipment, yet? Seriously, it’s a must-have for anyone with thick/long hair that is hard to secure in place. I swear by it! For Nina Ricci, the process is pretty much the same, except that it’s done with hair parted down the middle and covering the ears. Also, use tortoise hair pins, or any other decorative hair pins, to give it an elegant spin.

Since the ones at Gucci and Michael Kors are a bit more complex, I thought this advice is best left to hair and beauty experts. Trust me, these are the best and easiest how-tos available for these hairstyles on the net. I already shared the Michael Kors one on Facebook and Twitter (Follow Me!), but in case you missed it, here it is. And here’s the link to the most challenging of them all, i.e., Gucci – http://bit.ly/gQqsRQ

These pulled back hairstyles will look so nice with candy-colored eyes and lips come summer, don’t you think? Can’t wait to try them out! 🙂

Stay stunning,

SK

I truly love buns and knots, but I am quite unskilled in that department. The way my mother used to effortlessly pull her hair in a stylish bun always fascinated me. Maybe someday I will learn too. 🙂

Look forward to hearing from you
