Believe it or not, orange is one of the few lipstick shades that I actually like on myself. Lipstick is just not my thing, and about two years ago I was talking to a friend about it and she suggested I experiment with orange shades, and she was right! Orange lips suit a variety of complexions and is a great alternative to red lips, which, let’s face it, are kind of hard to pull off! I love how you can easily wear this color during the day without looking too dressed up, and with the right kind of makeup, it can give you a very youthful and fresh look, as opposed to red lipstick, again, which can make you look older.
So, how do I wear it? I like to keep things to a bare minimum. I have deep brown eyes and I love how they look against orange lips (orange also makes green and blue eyes pop!), so I basically concentrate on my eyes and lips. I use a shimmery, nude/neutral eye shadow and finish it off with a little bit of eyeliner and lots of mascara. Well, that’s until I saw the makeup on the Nanette Lepore Spring 2010 runway (picture above) and became beyond obsessed with it! I’ve tried this look a couple of times and you know what? I’m still not over it!! I love how the blue eyeliner and orange lipstick look together and I love the idea of only using the eyeliner on the lower lash line. It’s such a fun, summery look, isn’t it?!?! As an alternative, you can also keep your eyes subdued and concentrate on your cheeks, with a light bronzer or a blush and just let your orange lips stand out.
And as for the lipstick itself, I have a fair complexion (by Indian standards) and go for a lipstick with pink/peach undertones. I also prefer a matte formula rather than a glossy one. Neon is fun, but I think that would look too jarring on my complexion; although, if you are on the darker side, this is the color to try out! Generally, the darker you are, the brighter you can go. That said, MAC has quite a few orange shades like Morange, CB 96 and Hot Sass, among others that you can experiment with.
So, is this particular shade of lipstick for you? Tell me what you think, ladies!
Until next time then, stay stylish! 🙂
P.S. – The color orange is hot right now and has been on other bloggers’ radars as well. Check out this post from Wedding on the Cards on using orange as a wedding theme color and this post from Miles of Style on all things that the color orange reminds us of.
